The Florida Association of Benthologists (FAB) was formed in 1987 and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1992 to provide a forum for the exchange of information and to provide training for benthologists and scientists in related disciplines.

FAB conducts regular meetings and workshops at which reports and seminars on a variety of environmental, taxonomic, and biological studies are presented. Field excursions, which allow participants to observe and often to collect in a diverse range of freshwater and marine environments are an important component of these meetings.

The membership of FAB includes freshwater and marine biologists, taxonomists, and other scientists representing a diversity of academic, consulting, government, and commercial interests.
